Hilliard Recreational Soccer League (HRSL)
Welcome to the HRSL Page!

Recreational soccer is a great place to start a child that has never played soccer before. It is also a wonderful program to have a child in that wants to play soccer for the fun of it without the competitive side to it. Hilliard Recreational Soccer League (HRSL) registers players twice each year, typically in January and June. Recreational players range in age from 4 to 12 years of age and can register to play HRSL with the exception of players entering middle school (7th/8th grade).  Those players are encouraged to play their middle school soccer for Fall and then play MSSA program with us in the Spring.  Any person that does the online registration and meets these age criteria is accepted regardless of where they live - as long as their is an opening on a team.  Recreational teams are formed each Fall through random assignment of registered players.  Players remain with their Recreational team through the Fall and Spring seasons.  Should players drop off teams for the Spring season, they are replaced by new registrants.  If more players register for the Spring season then there are openings, new teams are formed for the Spring season only.  HRSL makes every attempt to place players on teams.  Unfortunately, we typically have 12 to 25 players per season that we are unable to place on teams because the teams are full and there are not enough age specific players to form a new team. We do not take requests to be on a certain team or to be with a certain coach or player. Registration for the Fall season is in June, while the Spring season registration is in January.

Parents of players on a team volunteer to coach the teams.  Teams are organized into leagues by age group and sex.   The U5 age group is for players aged 4 to 5 years.  U-6, U-7, U-8, U9 and U10-12 leagues are formed with teams whose players are younger than the upper age on August 1st.  For example, if a player is 7 years old on August 1st, they play in an under eight years old (U-8) league. See Quick Link below to see what age group your child will fall into.

The fall and spring season consists of seven games played on Saturday or Sunday for one hour between teams registered with HRSL.  All teams will practice once per week (Monday - Friday) for one hour starting two-three weeks before the first game of the season, except for the U5 age group.  The U5 teams will practice once before the season games start sometime during the week night, and then once the season starts they will practice 1/2 hour on Game Day (Saturday or Sunday) and then play a 1/2 hour game following the practice.  Coaches will contact the player's family a week before the practices begin to share which day of the week and time you have practice. The game schedules will be available on each family's account on the website a week before the practices begin. A professional third party photographer takes team and individual pictures each season.  HRSL receives a portion of the revenue generated from those families that voluntarily purchase the pictures.

Hilliard Recreational Soccer League (HRSL) fees per season: $45.00 U5,  $70.00 U6-U12

Please note that once a child is registered for a program there are no refunds given.

Way to Go Coaches!
CONGRATULATIONS John Hawkins for receiving the OSYSA Girls Rec Coach of the Year!

John Haskins has been awarded the 2011 Ohio South Girls Recreation Coach of the Year.  Haskins is the coach of the Hilliard Ohio Soccer Association U8 Sandcats. He has been playing soccer his entire life and has a true passion for the game. He spends extra time with each of his players, making sure they understand the fundamentals of soccer. He coaches in an enjoyable and exciting environment, while still being able to involve everyone and work as a team. Through the time he has coached the Sandcats, he has inspired confidence in the girls and has allowed them to learn at a very high level.

Spring 2012 HRSL Awesome Coaches!

Here is what others have said about their coach:

Coach Stacey Feicht, U8 Girls Cheetahs
Coach Stacey should be recognized for the sportsmanship award since she makes it her primary mission to ensure all the girls have fun.  This includes encouraging and celebrating the successes and improvements of all the girls no matter their skill level.  She encourages all the girls to play all the positions and stresses the importance of teamwork and team play above any individual performance.

Coach James Duckro, U6 Boys Jaguars

Coach James is kind and patient with the boys. He teaches good sportsmanship with a positive spin on everything. He takes the time to teach the team correct skills of the game.  You can tell by his words and actions how important each boy is and how team work matters.  We have been very lucky to have a coach like him. I love his positive spirit.

Coach James Duckro, U6 Boys Jaguars
We couldn't be happier with Coach James.  His knowledge of the game and his delivery of that message to the kids set him apart. We feel very fortunate to have been placed on his team this year.  I hope more parents take the time to nominate James because he deserves it.

Coach Shawn Bradfield, U6 Boys Panthers

Our son Trevor has participated in Soccer since he was four years old and also other sports with different leagues with many different volunteer coaches.  Coach Shawn is by far one of the best coaches that our son Trevor has had to date.  Shawn is a very dedicated coach to the boys and parents.  He is in constant communication with the parents.  He works with the entire team and adjusts practice and games based on individual skills and needs. Shawn not only develops soccer skills for each of the boys, he also ensures he is teaching the kids life lessons such as listening, focus, and follow through.  We leave each practice and game with a positive message.  Most importantly, Shawn is focused on the kids having fun each and every time they are together.  We are very thankful for the experience that Trevor has had on Shawn’s team Fall 2011 and Spring 2012.

Coach Shawn Bradfield, U8 Boys Bobcats
Shawn is one of the best coaches Addison has had since playing recreational soccer.  I can imagine that being a volunteer that some take the task as just that, volunteering. And Addison has had some coaches that really did not show a true interest in the sport (in another district, not HOSA).  But Shawn shows a general interest in soccer and in each of his players.  He pays attention to their strengths and weaknesses and coaches appropriately.  Addison has been playing since he was 4 and since being on Shawn’s team he has been more excited about playing and even eager for practice.  Shawn does not just teach them how to play, but he ensures they have fun while doing it and he enforces respectful behavior during practice and games.  It is difficult to keep 11 boys focused for 75 minutes and the excitement and dedication I see in each player during practice & games only enforces the fact that Shawn has a gift with coaching soccer.  I hate that the 2011/2012 soccer season will end this spring and Addison may have to take his chances again with another coach.  Hopefully the other coaches will be as dedicated and effective as Shawn and Addison will continue to look forward to soccer as much as he does today.

Coach Chris Taylor, U8 Boys  Lions
Coach Taylor works well with the children and is never derogatory. Our son is excited to be at practice and the games. Coach Taylor has excellent communication skills with both the children and parents. We are very excited about this season and the experience our son will gain with him as the coach.

Coach Jamie Mullins, U10-12 Girls Golden Cats
We can’t believe how much Lydia has learned since she started on Jamie Mullins’s team last Fall.  She wasn’t even sure she wanted to continue playing.  She really understands the game now, and with the encouragement of Coach Jamie (and Assistant Coach Kevin) she has begun to enjoy soccer and we’ve really seen a change in how much fun she’s having on the field.  She’s much more confident and really plays the game now.  We’ve really enjoyed the season and watching the girls learn to work as a team.  We are so glad we signed her up for another season.  Coach Jamie really has a good time teaching the girls the fundamentals, teamwork and devising new and interesting ways to help them learn.

Coach Joe Koltak, U6 Girls Cheetahs
Joe is an amazing coach. He encourages each girl and supports the decision they make on the field.  He is teaching the girls proper soccer skills all while having fun!  He makes each girl feel like they are part of the team.  Joe takes the time to know each child on his team and learns what they each bring to the field. We are looking forward to a great season with a great coach!

Coach Stefanie Rummer, U8 Spotted Leopards
Coach Stephanie Rummer is a prime example of what Coaching Sportsmanship should be. We share a practice field on Wednesdays, and she is always  accomodating to us, and is willing to scrimmage every practice. As well, during our game this past weekend, she was willing to let us switch ends of the field at halftime, to give both teams the chance have the wind during the game. She has a well coached, well mannered team, she shows great class and her players are all great sports.

Coach Michael Sims, U6 Girls Golden Cats
Coach Michael Sims proves once again to be a great coach as this is my daughter's second season under his direction. His coaching includes a great mixture of teaching, encouraging and patience. He pays attention to what each individual girl may need instruction or help with during the games and directs them accordingly in the following practice. He has excellent sportsmanship, gives the girls positive feedback whether winning or losing and at the same time strives to motivate the girls to play with tenacity. Michael also does a great job of spreading out playing time amongst the girls in the games. Off the field, he communicates well with emails before each game and practice or other items of importance.
