HOSA SISTER SOCCER PROGRAM (SHOFCO)

The Hilliard Ohio Soccer Association (HOSA) and Kenya’s Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) youth soccer leagues are proud to announce a “Sister League” arrangement to promote international understanding and the spirit of sportsmanship.  Both SHOFCO and HOSA are Section 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations registered with the United States Internal Revenue Service.

Soccer is an integral part of SHOFCO, an internationally recognized grassroots organization located in the Kibera and Mathare slums of Nairobi, Kenya.  SHOFCO began in 2004 when its founder, Kennedy Odede, purchased a 20 cent soccer ball with the goal of developing community spirit and unity.

From that simple beginning SHOFCO has become an important force for economic and community development in Kenya slums.  Among its many recognitions, SHOFCO is the recipient of the 2018 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Award.  SHOFCO’s achievements include the establishment of the tuition free Kibera School for Girls, the first school specifically for girls in Kibera; operating 7 health clinics in Kibera and Mathare; and the development of an aerial pipe system providing potable water to residents of Kibera.

As part of this “Sister League” arrangement HOSA is encouraging its supporters, as well as supporters of other local soccer leagues, other individuals, companies and entities to donate to the SHOFCO soccer program.  This may be done by going to DONATE TO SHOFCO link in the right hand box of this page! HOSA will not receive any portion of the money donated to SHOFCO.
